The New Age Architectural Consultancy firm -

Defining new trends and design practices in Buildings and Interiors

The State of Assam and other North East regions reeled through a long felt need for Architectural and Engineering knowhow in all facets of the construction industry, until Designers’ Guild, one of the oldest architectural and engineering firms in North-East India, was established in the year 1966 by the late founder Er. Indrajit Baruah, (IIT Kharagpur) who later on included Ar. Dilip Borah (MS University, Baroda) into the firm.

Designers’ Guild had inculcated a unique vision at the root level in design and planning process, with the firm being a serial innovator & pioneer in many architectural & engineering applications in north-eastern India with projects ranging from urban habitats, residential, industrial & commercial, IT parks, corporate offices, educational campuses, sports facilities and many more.

Apart from architectural design, Designers’ Guild has a distinctive credibility in the field of Interior Design and planning with specialization in various MEP services including automation.

Debasish Charaborty

Chief Architect & Partner

Ar Debasish Chakraborty with his B.Arch. Degree in Architecture from NIT, Tiruchirapalli has been contributing immensely with his design and planning in the construction industry. His educational career saw an early credibility in achieving a prestigious certification from the University of Cambridge, U.K. for being a part in documentation program for Temple Architecture in the district of Kumbokonam, Tamil Nadu. The vast expanse of professionalism in the field of Architecture, Interior design and consultancy has exposed him to learn and acquire new trends in the world of design and construction, besides being a member in IGBC (Indian Green Building Council), Hyderabad and who has been contributing towards the development of green building and Sustainable Architecture. Energy efficient buildings and green campuses, state-of-art buildings with interiors are his major form of interest element in design and conceptualization process where the firm has been contributing to few of the upcoming projects and completed many landmark projects like Medical College and Hospital, Tinsukia, Corporate Ofiice building for NERAMAC (North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation), Guwahati, NENPL ,State of Art Buiscuit Factory, Mangaldoi, Regional Head Office Building NEDFi (North Eastern Developmet Finance Corporation Ltd., Dispur, Guwahati, Regional Office Building NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), Guwahati and many more.

Ajay Kumar Agarwal

Architect & Partner

Ar. Ajay Kumar Agarwal, B. Arch, M. Arch is the founder member of The Edge. After graduating in Architecture from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli (Formerly REC Trichy) in 1998, he got the opportunity to work with Prof. Dr. Ar. Rommel Mehta (Design Coordinators, New Delhi; Ex-HOD, SPA Delhi), a prominent Landscape Architect and Educationist, during his formative years in 2001-2003. Under Dr. Mehta's guidance he got the opportunity and exposure to work on Intense Landscape Architectural Projects of varying dimensions, scale and magnitude from residences to farmhouses to campuses and townships. The most significant project to work under his tenure was the Numaligarh Township in Tezpur, Assam.

Thereafter he joined Grotech Landscape Developers Private Ltd, (2003-2020), which is one of the best landscape development firms in India. During his long tenure of 17 years therein, he got the opportunity to be a part of various landmark projects in India of National and International significance. Two of the many prominent projects that he was part of were the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad Haryana and Lupin Labs, Pune for which Grotech got huge accolades and recognition for their outstanding efforts and contribution.

Late Dilip Kumar Borah

(1936-2009)

A founder partner of Desingers' Guild, Dilip Kumar Borah held a B.Arch degree of the M S University from Baroda in 1963. He was an associate member of the Indian Institute of Architects, He worked in the Gujarat Refinery Project till 1966, after which he started private practice as a partner of this firm. He was a registered architect with the Council of Architecture, New Delhi (Regn. No. CA/75/2012) and was an associate member of the Indian Institute of Architects. He was one of the most experienced and respected architects in Assam and was frequently invited to judge architectural competitions and render advice on architectural aspects by various organizations. He was also an entrepreneur of repute and was the director of several companies.

Mr. Borah passed away on August 25, 2009.

Late Indrajit Barua

(1936-2017)

Holder of an Honours degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1958, Mr. Baruah was a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers (India). He had joined the Assam PWD as an Assistant Engineer in 1958, and was deputed to the Gauhati Refinery Project in 1959, where he worked till 1964 - first as an Assistant Engineer and then as a Divisional Head. He then joined the Assam Government Construction Corporation Ltd. as Project Engineer. He joined the firm in 1969 as a partner. He had written several computer programmes on structural analysis and is acknowledged to be an authority on computer-aided structural design. He was a member of the State Planning Board and the Economic Advisory Council to the Government of Assam. He was also a member of the committee for the selection of a site for the permanent capital of Assam, and a member of the task force constituted to suggest measures for the all-round economic development of Assam.

He was a member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering and the Indian Roads Congress (IRC). A number of his papers on computer-aided design of bridge elements were published in "The Bridge & Structural Engineer" and "Indian Highways".He had been the team leader in engineering projects handled by the firm over the last 45+ years. In October 2011, he was deputed by the National Disaster Management Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India to be a member of the team to assess & submit a report the damages caused by the North Sikkim Earthquake of September, 2011.

He left for his heavenly abode on June 26, 2017. On his sad demise we lost a great mentor and leader.
