  • The first “Green Campus Project” in North East India – an up-coming project under IGBC Certification with Gold Rating – North East Craft’s Village for NEDFi (North eastern development Financial Incorporation) at Guwahati, Assam
  • The firm has been an innovator & pioneer in many Architectural & Engineers applications in the North-Eastern Region. Some of these are:
  • The first 7 storied RCC framed building with flat slabs and RCC shear walls for a seismic resistance – Regional office Building for the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development at Guwahati.
  • The first multi-storied steel framed building with large column grids (12.5 x 6.2 metres) with RCC shear walls for a seismic resistance – Corporate Office Building for North East Development Finance Corporation Ltd. at Guwahati.
  • The first pre-stressed concrete overhead water reservoir in Assam – 2000 Kl. Capacity Overhead reservoir at Duliajan for M/s Oil India Ltd.
  • The largest domed roof in Assam – 20 metre diameter – State Transport Building at Jorhat. The largest Orthopaedic plate floor & roof – 18 m x 12 m – Veterinary Biological Building at Guwahati.
  • The use of diagonally braced frames to resist seismic forces – Reserve Bank of India campus & the SBI Officers’ Campus at Guwahati.
  • The first use of granular columns as a foundation system for multi-storied buildings in very weak soils - % storied Bachelor Officers’ Quarters for ONGC at Nazira & 4/5 storied Officers flats for SBI, at Guwahati, 7-storied NABARD regional Office Building at Guwahati.
  • The first large span folded plate roof 2m x 15m x 60m – APRO Building at Guwahati.
  • The first pre-stressed concrete bowstring girder bridge in the country – the two lane RCC bridge over River Dikhow at Sibasagar.
  • Use of in-house developed computer programs for building & bridge design.
  • Identification of liquefaction prone soil at Tezpur University Campus and suggestion of measures to prevent liquefaction.
  • First large span (24m x 24m) RCC hyper-shell structure in the North-East.

Mr. Chakraborty has a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu (Year: 1997). He has planned and designed a number of public buildings, technology parks, industrial plants and commercial & residential buildings including high-end interiors for reputed organisations over the last 18 years.

An active member in IGBC ( Indian Green Building council), Hyderabad, he has been taking a lead role in the development of sustainable architecture in the N.E. Region with commitments towards design integrity and project excellence.

The Foundation Behind

Late Dilip Kumar Borah

Late Dilip Kumar Borah

(1936-2009)

A founder partner of Desingers' Guild, Dilip Kumar Borah held a B.Arch degree of the M S University from Baroda in 1963. He was an associate member of the Indian Institute of Architects, He worked in the Gujarat Refinery Project till 1966, after which he started private practice as a partner of this firm. He was a registered architect with the Council of Architecture, New Delhi (Regn. No. CA/75/2012) and was an assocate member of the Indian Institute of Architects. He was one of the most experienced and respected architects in Assam and was frequently invvited to judge architectural competitions and render advice on architectural aspects by various organizations. He was also an entrepreneur of repute and was the director of several companies.

Mr. Borah passed away on August 25, 2009.

Indrajit Barua

Late Indrajit Barua

(1936-2017)

Holder of an Honours degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1958, Mr. Baruah was a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers (India). He had joined the Assam PWD as an Assistant Engineer in 1958, and was deputed to the Gauhati Refinery Project in 1959, where he worked till 1964 - first as an Assistant Engineer and then as a Divisional Head. He then joined the Assam Government Construction Corporation Ltd. as Project Engineer. He joined the firm in 1969 as a partner. He had written several computer programmes on structural analysis and is acknowledged to be an authority on computer-aided structural design. He was a member of the State Planning Board and the Economic Advisory Council to the Government of Assam. He was also a member of the committee for the selection of a site for the permanent capital of Assam, and a member of the task force constituted to suggest measures for the all-round economic development of Assam.

He was a member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering and the Indian Roads Congress (IRC). A number of his papers on computer-aided design of bridge elements were published in "The Bridge & Structural Engineer" and "Indian Highways".He had been the team leader in engineering projects handled by the firm over the last 45+ years. In October 2011, he was deputed by the National Disaster Management Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India to be a member of the team to assess & submit a report the damages caused by the North Sikkim Earthquake of September, 2011.

He left for his heavenly abode on June 26, 2017. On his sad demise We have lost a great mentor and leader.
